popped my clutch cable last night doing about 120 and decided it wasn't smart to take it out until i got it fixed or located a new bike.

That sucks. What's a new cable cost?

have not looked into it yet but i'm thinking of just getting it for a new brand i've had nothing but crap from this extremely molested bastardized bike.
02 motor in 03 frame
02 handle bars for carbed motor.
electronic not swapped so my igition is going.
stator is going out
clutch is the new problem and non of those before it are fixed so they just keep piling up.
new kawi would not be so bad but i won't ever buy a used one again.

cooks has an 05 gsxr 600 for the same i paid for mine seeing if i can't straight trade. they have a 04 636 that i was looking at as well...... but then again with all the problems i have on this one i don't know if i should buy from him again.

It's always a gamble with used. Do they have like a 30-90 day warranty?

i don't think so they wanted to work with me on this bike getting it traded in awhile ago but he sold the bike i wanted. i will have to wait until monday to read if he wants to or not. he didn't tell me it was carbed so i'm not telling him the clutch is out.

I can't get over how ugly the front ends are on those gixxers. I just looked at the one you told me about. Why not get the 2002 R6 they have or the 954rr and buy a race body?
95gsx
04-06-2008, 02:11 PM
done with carbed...... so 02 r6 is just not the first bike i want. and the gixer is just a bike not like i have to look at my bike while i'm riding it. plus its probably more bang for the buck. and i'd rather not get a 1000 cc bike i'm still new to bikes and a 750 would be a stretch
plus the gsxr has a clear title.

oh yea btw me and jeremy were lookin at your bike last night and we came to the conclusion there is no way possible it can be your clutch cable. we are thinking its your actual clutch.
95gsx
04-06-2008, 04:01 PM
it could be that too just there was a lot more play in the controls then there should be.
01F4izzy
04-06-2008, 04:08 PM
ya but the cable is still pulling the linkage absolutely as far as it goes. you cant even push it any farther.
jaceface
04-06-2008, 04:12 PM
just look at your clutch cover..... there should be a lever going into the clutch cover that the cable hooks too, pull in the clutch and if you see that lever moving then the cable is good, if not then it could be broke, stretched, etc.....
01F4izzy
04-06-2008, 04:15 PM
ya jace thats the linkage im talking about. its pulling that all the way. you cant even push that lever any farther, so thats why im saying its not the cable...
jaceface
04-06-2008, 04:21 PM
hmmm, does the bike stay in a gear and rev up (clutch slips)? just pop the cover off and take a look, its not that difficult.

04-06-2008, 04:31 PM
take a look at what?
01F4izzy
04-06-2008, 04:35 PM
the clutch
jaceface
04-06-2008, 04:36 PM
well when a clutch goes out you usually have slippage beforehand. there are a butch of bolts that hold the clutch basket in, they have springs on them, thats the resistance you feel when you pull on the clutch lever. if you dont feel that resistance most likely something is broke or unattached somehow. im horrible at explaining things....
95gsx
04-06-2008, 04:37 PM
that explains it fine
jaceface

takes at most 10 minutes to take the clutch cover off... if you can tip the bike the opposite way you wont lose much oil either. get some permetex high temp silicone to reseal it when you put it back on. dont get the red stuff cuz it has been known to ruin aluminum.
